Ansei

Redguard - Sword - Clothing - Heavy - Warrior

Background

The greatest among the Redguard sword-singers are known as Ansei. They have the ability to manifest by sheer force of will a sword from their very soul known as a Shehai. To become one a swordsman must have an extreme devotion, focus and skill in the way sword.


Weapons

A bound sword is used for the entire game once you acquire the spell.


Armor

Any heavy armor at the start of the game. Steel Soldier is usually a good set to craft early so make sure you get the Steel Smithing perk early. There’s plenty of Iron and Corrundum ore spots around Whiterun and Tundra Homestead has a smelter and forge outside that you can use without buying the house.

The final gear is Redguard Hood, Telvanni Robes, Golden Saint Boots and Gauntlets.

The Telvanni Robes are acquired along a medium length quest chain on Solstheim. You need to help Captain Velk with the Ash Spawns and then do quests for Master Neloth at Tel Mithryn. The robes can be found on Ildari. If you play with USSEP then by default it hides Telvanni Robes so you cannot acquire them. You’ll need to use console commands to spawn the item instead. In my opinion a more appropriate fix would be to make Master Neloth sell the Telvanni Robes as by completing the quest he makes you a member of House Telvanni.

Talk to Ri’saad the Khajiit merchant that travels between Whiterun and Markarth and ask about bandit attacks. You will very quickly find the Golden Saint Boots and Gauntlets by following the quests.


Spells

Alteration for utility spells. Conjuration for Bound Sword. Restoration for heals.


Standing Stones

The Lord Stone for 50 armor rating and 25% magic resistance.


Shrines

Use a shrine of Talos for 20% cooldown to shouts.


Shouts

Slow Time (Time - Sand - Eternity)

Location: Hag’s End, Korvanjund (The Jagged Crown), Labyrinthian (The Staff of Magnus).

Slows time down for you a bit and everyone else a lot. Can be used to get multiple attacks in while the enemy is unable to respond to them as quickly as normal.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Female Redguard

This is specifically a Redguard build based on the background.

Pick female as the sex for your character as there are more male humanoids than females to fight in Skyrim so the 10% damage bonus against the opposite sex from Agent of Dibella gets more use. All Dwemer Automatons are considered male.

During my play through I upgraded my Steel Soldier gear to Orcish Plate and an Orcish Shield. The shield was used to level block via a helpful giant. I added Fortify Restoration and Fortify Magicka Regen on the armour to make healing spells cost very little to cast. This helped a lot when levelling Heavy Armor and block.

I also created a ring with Fortify Conjuration and Magicka Regen and a Necklace with Fortify Conjuration and Magicka to level Conjuration. There’s a rock you can jump to the top of at Talking Stone Camp that is out of reach of the giant there. You can then spam soul trap at the two mammoths and the giant on the plains below the camp. I had 92% Conjuration cost reduction, +230 Magicka and +230% Magicka Regen and cast soul trap in both hands.

Detect Life Adept Nearby living creatures, but not undead, machines or Daedra, can be seen through walls
Telekinesis Adept Can pull an object to you from distance. Add it to your inventory or throw it
Waterbreathing Adept Can breathe under water for 60 seconds

The Detect Life spellbook can be obtained in Whiterun by taking to the Steward in Dragonsreach and following the quest to the Stables.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description
Bound Sword Novice Creates a magic sword for 120 seconds. Sheathe it to dispel.
Soul Trap Apprentice If a target dies within 60 seconds, fills a soul gem

Soul Trap is used to level Conjuration and also fill soul gems.


Destruction

Spell Level Description
Flames Novice A gout of fire inflicting a base damage of 8 points of fire damage per second

Destruction was not used at all while I played this build.


Illusion

Spell Level Description
Courage Novice Target won't flee for 60 seconds, and gets some extra health and stamina.

Courage can be used to level illusion.


Restoration

Spell Level Description
Healing Novice Heals the caster 10 points per second
Fast Healing Apprentice Heals caster by 50 points
Close Wounds Adept Heals caster by 100 points
Grand Healing Expert Heals everyone close to the caster 200 points. Does not affect atronachs, machines or undead

Restoration spells are used out of combat and as a means to quickly restore stamina.


Enchantments

The effects listed below are based upon 100 Enchanting skill, all the enchanting perks in the build and with a set of enchanted crafting gear. Read my guide on making crafting gear if you are not familiar with it.

With the Sallow Regent Black Book the magnitude of all enchantments can be increased. Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Fortify Health

Mora Tapinella are on the route from Helgen to Whiterun. There’s a lot of Scaly Pholiota to the south of Ivarstead and around Riften. Steel-Blue Entoloma are from Khajiit caravan merchants.


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Stoneflower Petals & Snowberries
Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.


Potion of Fortify Smithing

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Gold Kanet & Glowing Mushrooms
Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
