Skadi

Nord - Bow - Clothing - Light - Archer - Conjurer

Background

In Norse mythology Skadi is a giantess and goddess associated with bowhunting, skiing, winter and mountains.


Weapons

Hunting Bow then a Stalhrim Bow. I bought a Stalhrim Bow from Grover Mallory in Raven Rock at level 35 rather than completing the majority of the Dragonborn DLC to unlock the crafting of Stalhrim items.

Ice Arrows can be made once you have found or bought one and they require 2 Frost Salts and Firewood. Frost Salts can be made at the Atronach Forge in the Midden Dark below the College of Winterhold with any soul gem + Salt Pile +Sapphire / Flawless Sapphire/ Gold Sapphire Ring / Silver Sapphire Necklace


Armor

Craft a set of Leather Scout gear when you can once you have left Helgen. The final gear is Skaal Coat, Stalhrim Light Boots, Stalhrim Light Gauntlets, Nordic Circlet. The dmaage reduction cap is not met with this build but you are attacking from range and using Familiar in the early game and Atronachs in the end game to distract enemies and tank them for you.

I’m not sure at what level Stalhrim armor starts appearing in Glover Mallory’s inventory, he’s the blacksmith in Raven Rock on Solstheim, They were not appearing at level 35 when I got the bow but at level 38 they were spawning for me. You can therefore buy them without progressing the Dragonborn DLC main story.

The Skaal Coat can be found on a dead Skaal by a tent near the lake next to Thirsk Mead Hall. A note on a barrel there also starts the quest for the Stahlrim Fur creation.


Spells

Alteration for utility spells, Conjuration for Frost Atronach and Frost Thrall, Frost Cloak from Destruction. Restoration for heals


Standing Stones

The Lord Stone for the 50 extra armour and 25% magic resistance. This helps bolster your defences and I got it early.


Shrines

Use a shrine of Talos for the 20% shout cooldown reduction.


Shouts

Frost Breath (Frost - Cold - Freeze)

Location: Bonestrewn Crest, Skyborn Altar, Folgunthur.

A cone attack that can be upgraded to Freeze enemies.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Female Nord

Nord is the best choice for the build based on the background.

Pick female as the sex for your character as Skadi is female.


Attribute Distribution

Distribute attributes at a ratio of 0 / 3 / 1. At level 61 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:

Alteration

Spell Level Description
Candlelight Novice Creates a hovering light that lasts for 60 seconds
Detect Life Adept Nearby living creatures, but not undead, machines or daedra, can be seen through walls
Telekinesis Adept Can pull an object to you from distance. Add it to your inventory or throw it
Waterbreathing Adept Can breathe under water for 60 seconds. Stand in water and cast to level Alteration.

From the Bow of Shadows quest that you get from the steward in Dragonsreach you can get the Detect Life spell book at the stables once you have read the ledger in Acradia's Cauldron. Cast this in the market during the day to level Alteration.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description
Conjure Familiar Apprentice Summons a familiar for 60 seconds wherever the caster is pointing.
Soul Trap Apprentice If a target dies within 60 seconds, fills a soul gem.
Conjure Frost Atronach Adept Summons a Frost Atronach for 60 seconds wherever the caster is pointing
Conjure Frost Atronach Master Summons a Frost Atronach permanently

Soul Trap is a good way to level conjuration. Just find a baby mudcrab and then spam the spell.


Destruction

Spell Level Description
Flames Novice A gout of fire inflicting a base damage of 8 points of fire damage per second.
Frost Cloak Adept For 60 seconds, opponents in melee range take 8 points frost damage and Stamina damage per second
Unbounded Freezing Expert A freezing wind envelops the caster, knocking down nearby enemies and freezing them for 50 points of damage per second to Health and Stamina.

Use Unbounded Freezing and fast travelling to level Destruction. The spellbook can be found in Hob's Fall Cave.


Illusion

Spell Level Description
Courage Novice Target won't flee for 60 seconds, and gets some extra health and stamina.

Courage can be used to level illusion by casting it at an NPC.


Restoration

Spell Level Description
Healing Novice Heals the caster 10 points per second
Healing Hands Apprentice Heals the target 10 points per second, but not undead, atronachs, or machines
Fast Healing Apprentice Heals caster by 50 points
Close Wounds Adept Heals caster by 100 points
Grand Healing Expert Heals everyone close to the caster 200 points. Does not affect atronachs, machines or undead

Restoration is used for out of combat healing and potions are used in combat.


Enchantments

The effects listed below are based upon 100 Enchanting skill, all the enchanting perks in the build and with a set of enchanted crafting gear. Read my guide on making crafting gear if you are not familiar with it.

With the Sallowed Regent Black Book the magnitude of all enchantments can be increased. Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.


Alchemy

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Fortify Health

Ingredients Blue Mountain Flower & Wheat
Effects Fortify Health Health increases by 170 points for 60 seconds
Restore Health 266 points of health restored

You can get all the Blue Mountain Flowers you need in Whiterun. The two farms to the east of Whiterun also get you all the Wheat you need.


Potion of Fortify Archery

Ingredients Canis Root & Juniper Berries
Effects Fortify Archery Bows do 170% more damage for 60 seconds

Canis Root is found on the opposite side of the river to Solitude and you’ll need 4 as you can get 2 from Arcadia’s Cauldron for free if you give her the Frost Salts from Farengar and there’s one in the secret lab at the farm. Juniper Berries are around Markarth.


Potion of Fortify Destruction

Ingredients Glowing Mushroom, Snowberries & Steel-Blue Entoloma
Effects Fortify Destruction 170% more damage for 60 seconds
Resist Frost 128% for 60 seconds
Resist Shock 128% for 60 seconds

All the glowing mushrooms you need are at the farm. Snowberries are from around Windhelm. Steel-Blue Entoloma are from Khajiit caravans


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Stoneflower Petals & Snowberries
Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.


Potion of Fortify Smithing

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Gold Kanet & Glowing Mushrooms
Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
