Imperial Agent

Imperial - Crossbow - Clothing - Light - Archer - Assassin

Background

The Agent is charming when they can be seen, and nearly invisible when in shadow. The Agent is skilled in deception and avoidance. They are self-reliant and devote themselves to their goals.


Weapons

Bow and then an Imperial Crossbow can be bought from the Flecher in Solitude. Bolts can also be bought from the Flecher. Remember to upgrade the crossbow to an enhanced version.


Armor

Craft a full set of leather scout armor as soon as you can. Once light armor is at 100 then switch to a Belted Tunic, Mage Hood, Dawnguard light boots and gauntlets.

The boots and gauntlets can be taken for free from Fort Dawnguard. With fully upgraded gear using crafting gear and potions of Fortify Smithing this gets you 60% damage reduction from the 2 armour pieces. The Belted Tunic can be bought from Radiant Raiment in Solitude. The Mage Hood can be bought from Colette Marence at the College of Winterhold.


Spells

Alteration for utility spells. Illusion for Invisibility. Restoration for out of combat heals.


Standing Stones

The Lord Stone for the 50 extra armour and 25% magic resistance.


Shrines

Shrine of Talos for faster shout cooldown.


Shouts

Aura Whisper (Life - Seak - Hunt))

Location: Northwind Summit, Valthume, Volunruud

Used to identify where targets are.

Throw Voice (Voice - Fool - Far)

Location: Shearpoint (all 3 words).

Attracts the attention of enemies so you can send them to a location.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Female Imperial

Dark Elves are the best race skill boost wise for this build and imperials are one of the least suited. Imperials seem to fit the role better lore wise.

Pick female as the sex for your character as there are more male humanoids than females to fight in Skyrim so the 10% damage bonus against the opposite sex from Agent of Dibella gets more use. All Dwemer Automatons count as Male.

The Dawnguard must be joined so you can easily craft bolts rather than alsways having to purchase them.


Attribute Distribution

Distribute attributes at a ratio of 0/2/1. At level 64 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:

Spell Level Description
Candlelight Novice Creates a hovering light that lasts for 60 seconds
Magelight Apprentice Ball of light that lasts 60 seconds and sticks where it strikes
Detect Life Adept Nearby living creatures, but not undead, machines or daedra, can be seen through walls.

Detect Life can be acquired in Whiterun by talking to the steward at Dragonsreach. Then follow the quest to the stables. Use this to level Alteration by casting in the market place during the day. Magelight and detect life are replaced by shouts but can be used before acquiring these. Ideally with the Quiet Casting perk from Illusion so you remain undetected.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description
Soul Trap Apprentice If a target dies within 60 seconds, fills a soul gem.

Used to fill soul gems for enchanting.


Destruction

Spell Level Description
Flames Novice A gout of fire that does 8 points per second. Targets on fire take extra damage

I didn't use any Destruction spells as a crossbow already does ranged damage.


Illusion

Spell Level Description
Courage Novice Target won't flee for 60 seconds, and gets some extra health and stamina.
Invisibility Expert Caster is invisible for 30 seconds. Activating an object or attacking will break the spell.

Courage can be used to level illusion by casting it at an NPC.


Restoration

Spell Level Description
Healing Novice Heals the caster 10 points per second
Healing Hands Apprentice Heals the target 10 points per second, but not undead, atronachs, or machines
Fast Healing Apprentice Heals caster by 50 points

Restoration spells are used out of combat. Unless you have run out of healing potions.


Enchantments

The effects listed below are based upon 100 Enchanting skill, all the enchanting perks in the build and with a set of enchanted crafting gear. Read my guide on making crafting gear if you are not familiar with it.

Magicka regenerates 115% faster.
Sneaking is 300% easier.

With the Sallowed Regent Black Book the magnitude of all enchantments can be increased. Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.


Alchemy

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Fortify Health

Ingredients Blue Mountain Flower & Wheat
Effects Fortify Health 170 points for 60 seconds
Restore Health 266 points restored

You can get all the Blue Mountain Flowers you need is in Whiterun. The two farms to the east of Whiterun also get you all the Wheat you need.


Potion of Regenerate Health

Ingredients Canis Root, Namira's Rot & Juniper Berry
Effects Regenerate Health 213% for 300 seconds
Fortify Archery 170% more damage for 60 seconds

Canis Root is found on the opposite side of the river to Solitude. There are 7 Namira’s Rot in Reachwater Rock near Markarth. The last one I needed was from Angelines Aromatics in Solitude. Juniper Berries are around Markarth.


Potion of Fortify Magicka

Ingredients Mora Tapinellas, Red Mountain Flowers & Tundra Cotton
Effects Fortify Magicka 170 points for 60 seconds
Restore Magicka 266 points restored

Mora Tapinella are on tree stumps between Helgen and Whiterun. Red Mountain Flowers are all around Skyrim. Tundra Cotton are around and in Whiterun.


Poison of Frenzy

Ingredients Blisterwort & Fly Amanita
Effects Frenzy Creatures and people up to level 43 will attack anything nearby for 10 seconds

At least 3 Blisterwort are in Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood and at least 3 are in Arcadia’s Cauldron in Whiterun. All the Fly Amanita you need are in Reachwater Rock to the south east of Markarth. I picked up 3 in Riverwood on my Way to Whiterun.


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Stoneflower Petals & Snowberries
Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.


Potion of Fortify Smithing

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Gold Kanet & Glowing Mushrooms
Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
