Dark Elf - Sword - Clothing - Light - Assassin - Spellsword

Background

Some hold truth to be the greatest virtue, but it can do more damage than fiction. Everyone lives in a constant state of deception. White lies, false smiles, and secret thoughts keep society running smoothly. Honesty is a virtue only up to a certain point. Beguilers understand these ideas better than anyone, and they use deception, misunderstanding, and secrets as skilfully as a soldier employs weapons of war.

This build is based on a Prestige Class from Dungeons and Dragons 3.5E.


Weapons

Steel sword then upgraded to a Blades sword.

The blades sword can be acquired in Riften Ratway from the Dawnfang/Duckfang creation and a note at the entrance starts the quest.


Armor

Craft a set of Leather Scout Armor as soon as you can. Then a Dunmer blue outfit without the hood replaces the Leather Scout armor when you have light armor at 100.

There’s a hoodless blue Dunmer Outfit on the body of the Dark Elf that gives you the quest for the Netch Leather. This is just down from the Wind stone at a camp with a tent. Not the one with the Bandits for the Deathbrand quest on the island, as going down from the Wind Stone it is to the right of that in the general direction of Frossel.

With the Light Armor Skill at 100, 5 ranks of Agile Defender, 2 x Fortify Light Armor and the Lord Stone. I calculate that this achieves a damage reduction of 72% where the cap in the game is 80%.


Spells

Alteration for some utility spells. Illusion for Calm, Fear and Frenzy spells, Restoration for out of combat heals.


Standing Stones

The Lord Stone for 50 Armor Rating and 25% Magic Resistance.


Shrines

Talos 20% quicker shout cooldown.


Shouts

Throw Voice (Voice - Fool - Far)

Location: Shearpoint (all 3 words).

Attracts the attention of enemies so you can send them to a location.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Female Dark Elf

Breton, Dark Elf and High Elf come out with the same 25/35 skill boosts for the build. I decided with Dark Elf instead to make use of the initial boost to stealth.

Pick female as the sex for your character as there are more male humanoids than females to fight in Skyrim so the 10% damage bonus against the opposite sex from Agent of Dibella gets more use. All Dwemer Automatons count as Male.


Attribute Distribution

Distribute attributes at a ratio of 1 / 2 / 0. At level 61 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:

Alteration

Spell Level Description
Detect Life Adept Nearby living creatures, but not undead, machines or daedra, can be seen through walls
Telekinesis Adept Can pull an object to you from distance. Add it to your inventory or throw it
Waterbreathing Adept Can breathe under water for 60 seconds. Stand in water and cast to level Alteration.

From the Bow of Shadows quest that you get from the steward in Dragonsreach you can get the Detect Life spell book at the stables once you have read the ledger in Acradia's Cauldron. Cast this in the market during the day to level Alteration.

I didn't need to actively use any Alteration spells in gameplay. They were purely to get levsls for perks.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description
Soul Trap Apprentice If a target dies within 60 seconds, fills a soul gem

Use Soul Trap to fill soul gems for enchanting.


Destruction

Spell Level Description
Flames Novice A gout of fire inflicting a base damage of 8 points of fire damage per second
Sparks Novice Lightning that does 8 points of shock damage to Health and Magicka per second

Destruction spells are not needed in the build as the only direct damage source is from the sword and the indirect damage source is from Frenzy spells.


Illusion

Spell Level Description
Courage Novice Target won't flee for 60 seconds, and gets some extra health and stamina.
Fury Novice Creatures and people up to level 6 will attack anything nearby for 30 seconds.
Calm Apprentice Creature and people up to level 9 won’t fight for 30 seconds.
Fear Apprentice Creatures and people up to level 9 flee from combat for 30 seconds.
Frenzy Adept Creatures and people up to level 14 will attack anyone nearby for 60 seconds.
Frenzy Rune Adept Targets up to level 20 will attack anyone nearby for 60 seconds.
Invisibility Expert Caster is invisible for 30 seconds. Activating an object or attacking will break the spell.
Pacify Expert Creatures and people up to level 20 flee from combat for 30 seconds.
Rout Expert Creatures and people up to level 20 flee from combat for 30 seconds.
Harmony Master Creatures and people up to level 25 nearby won’t fight for 60 seconds.
Hysteria Master Creatures and people up to level 25 flee from combat for 60 seconds.
Mayhem Master Creatures and people up to level 25 will attack anyone nearby for 60 seconds.

Courage can be used to level illusion by casting it at an NPC. I also used Fury against Wolves as they usually travel in pairs. Better spells were used as Illusion levels and perks were acquired.


Restoration

Grand Healing Expert Heals everyone close to the caster 200 points. Does not affect atronachs, machines or undead

Just the healing spells from Restoration.


Enchantments

The effects listed below are based upon 100 Enchanting skill, all the enchanting perks in the build and with a set of enchanted crafting gear. Read my guide on making crafting gear if you are not familiar with it.

One-handed weapons do 75% more damage.
Illusion spells costs 92% less to cast.
Restoration spells cost 46% less mto cast.
Stamina is increased by 115 points.
Magicka regenerates 75% faster
Light Armor skill is increased bt 92 points.
Sneaking is 150% easier.
Grants 37% resistance to all magic.

With the Sallowed Regent Black Book the magnitude of all enchantments can be increased. Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.


Alchemy

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Fortify Health

You can get all the Blue Mountain Flowers you need is in Whiterun. The two farms to the east of Whiterun also get you all the Wheat you need.

Mora Tapinella are on the route from Helgen to Whiterun. There’s a lot of Scaly Pholiota to the south of Ivarstead and around Riften. Steel-Blue Entoloma are from Khajiit caravan merchants.


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.

Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
