Wood Elf - Battleaxe - Heavy - Barbarian - Battlemage
Their plagues have transformed forests in into a foul green hell of diseased monsters and deadly poisons. Worse yet, the Blightlords seek to infect the healthy forests and lands nearby with the same sickness.
This is a build based on the Talontar Blightlord prestige class in Dungeons and Dragons from Unapproachable East. Bligthlords typically have a base class of Cleric, Ranger or Druid so the Wood Elf seemed the closest match for this build. A Fallen Wood Elf who views death and decay as a part of the forest as much as life and rejuvenation.
Any two-handed weapon at the start of the game. The closest thing to a glaive in Skyrim is the Headsman’s CleaverCC and this can be enchanted with Cold Damage and Absorb Stamina. Talk to an innkeeper and you’ll be given the quest Blood in the Water. Follow this to it’s conclusion and the boss wields this weapon.
This weapon was chosen as Talontar Blightlords use a glaive as their main weapon and the Headsman's Cleaver is the closest match to to a polearm. Their glaives also do cold damage and inflict a disease called horrid wilting. The enchantments used are the closest match to these that I could use without mods.
Any heavy armor at the start of the game and you have several options as the build uses perks in both directions in smithing. The final gear is Ancient Nord Helmet, Falmer Armor, Hardened/Heavy Falmer Boots and Hardened/Heavy Falmer Gauntlets
An Ancient Nord Helmet is found just inside Valthume. You don’t need to complete the dungeon to get it so you can go there as early as you like and return to complete it later when your character is stronger. You can get there easily by heading South East from Markarth and when you get to the Bridge with a Shrine of Dibella keep going straight on along the banks of the river towards Gloomreach. From their head South West and you will reach Valthume.
The Falmer Armor can be acquired without doing a deep run into Falmer areas by completing the Bones for the Crow quest. The quest is triggered by talking to Innkeepers and asking for work. In the final encounter Alvasorr the Rat has a full set of Falmer gear.
Hardened but ideally Heavy Flamer boots and gauntlets need to be looted from Falmer you kill. They are identical in appearance, but the Heavy set has a higher base armor rating and weighs less than the Hardened set. The damage reduction cap is met with the build, so this is only of benefit against a few encounters with high level bandit bosses when they use a mace or warhammer and have the relevant armour ignoring perks for these weapons.
Alteration for Paralysis Rune and some utility spells. Restoration for heals.
The Lord Stone, Guardian Stones of Lover Stone while levelling. Take The Atronach Stone for 50% spell absorption, 50 Magicka but -50% Magicka regeneration when you have reached 100 Alteration and have the Atronach perk, which is a total of 80% spell absorption.
Use a Shrine of Talos for the 20% reduction to shout cooldowns.
Location: Arcwind Point, Dimhollow Crypt (Dawnguard), Forgotten Vale (Dawnguard).
A decaying shout that weakens all of your enemies attributes.
Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)
Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.
Blightlords are immune to disease so that leaves either Wood Elf or Argonians as they are the only races that start with some disease resistance. Many Blightlords are fallen druids so that fits better with a Wood Elf. The Wood Elf greater power also could be considered as the Blightlord summoning blightspawned creatures to their aid.
Place attribute points at 0 / 3 / 1. At level 60 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:
