Skyrim AE Builds

Stormlord

Dark Elf - Staff - Clothing - Light - Mage

Background

TThe innate magic of a Stormlord comes from the power of elemental air. They use this power to call up the storms, allowing then to perform spectacular acts of violence.

This build is based on Lightning, a member of The Storms, from the film Big Trouble in Little China. The character from this film also inspired the character Raiden from Mortal Kombat. The Japanese god of lightning, thunder and storms called Raijin was also an influence for Raiden.

Weapons

A staff with a fire or frost spell as a backup weapon for enemies immune to shock or if you run out of magicka. I made a Dreugh Staff of Fireball. Unchanted staves can be bought from Master Neloth at Tel Mirthyn on Solstheim.

Armor

Make a full set of Leather Scout Armor as soon as you can. The final gear is a Redoran Watchman’s Helmet and the light blue common robes, while retaining the Leather Scout Boots and Gauntlets.

The Redoran Watchman’s Helmet can be crafted once you have the Elven Smithing perk. I just bought one from Glover Mallory, the blacksmith at Raven Rock, when I was level 5.

The common robes are acquired at the end of the Ghosts of the Tribunal quest. This can be started by reading the journal in the first room on the right on the downstairs level of the Temple in Raven Rock on Solstheim. Alternatively once you have read the journal return to Raven Rock in a few days and Fethis Alor will be selling Common robes. I was able to buy the robes at level 6. Reading the Journal may be coincidental to the availability of the robes as they could just start spawning in his inventory at level 6.

Spells

Utility spells from Alteration, Shock spells from Destruction and Heals from Restoration.

Standing Stones

The Atronach Stone for 50% spell absorption, 50 Magicka but -50% magicka regen.

Shrines

Talos 20% quicker shout cooldown.

Shouts

Cyclone (Wind - Unleash - Strike)

Location: Benkongerike, Kolbjorn Barrow (Unearthed), White Ridge Sanctum.

Can be used to knock multiple enemies to the ground that are in the path of the cyclone. The staggers from dual casting only work on the first target hit when using chain lightning and not any of the targets it jumps to afterwards and as such this allows you to thin the number s bit before enemies get into melee range. Staggering enemies with destruction spells requires the Impact perk and the spell to be dual cast.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.

Character Creation

Female Dark Elf

Pick a Dunmer as they are tan excellent match for the build based on the origin of some of the gear, they start with the Sparks spell and they begin the game with the highest level in Destruction of any race.

Pick female as the sex for your character as there are more male humanoids than females to fight in Skyrim so the 10% damage bonus against the opposite sex from Agent of Dibella gets more use. All Dwemer Automatons count as Male.

Attribute Distribution

Distribute attributes at a ratio of 1 / 1 / 0. At level 53 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:

Spells

Alteration

Telekinesis Adept Can pull an object to you from distance. Add it to your inventory or throw it
Waterbreathing Adept Can breathe under water for 60 seconds. Stand in water and cast to level Alteration.

From the Bow of Shadows quest that you get from the steward in Dragonsreach you can get the Detect Life spell book at the stables once you have read the ledger in Acradia's Cauldron. Cast this in the market during the day to level Alteration.

Candlelight was the only spell I needed as all the magical defences come from enchantments other sources than Alteration.

Conjuration

Use Soul Trap to fill soul gems, which can help recharge the Aetherium Staff.

Sparks Novice Lightning that does 8 points of shock damage to Health and Magicka per second

Chain Lightning Adept Lightning bolt that does 40 points of shock damage to Health and half to Magicka, then leaps to a new target.
Thunderbolt Expert A Thunderbolt that does 60 points of shock damage to Health and half that to Magicka.
Lightning Storm Master Target takes 75 points of shock damage per second to Health, and half that to Magicka.

Use progressively better shock spells as you acquire the Destruction perks to reduce their costs.

Illusion

Courage can be used to level illusion by casting it at an NPC.
