Demonologist

High Elf - Staff - Clothing - Heavy - Conjurer - Mage

Background

The demonologist is the mightiest or sorcerers, wielding the power of Oblivion and Nirn and capable of conjuring great pillars of flames or storms of electricity. So great is their occult knowledge they can bargain servants from Oblivion into doing their bidding.

This is based on a mage class from a game called Age of Conan, where demonologists are fire and shock mages who can have an incubus or sucubus familiar to give them a slight boost in combat.


Weapons

Any Destruction staff as a backup. I made a Daedric Staff of Thunderbolt but never needed to use it.


Armor

Heavy armor and Robes or Destruction or Robes of Destruction and Alteration at the start of the game. The final gear is a mask of Almalexia, Mythic Dawn Robes, Daedric Boots and Gauntlets.

The Mask of Almalexia from the Ghosts of the Tribunal creation. Start this quest chain by reading the journal in the Temple at Raven Rock on Sosltheim.

The Mythic Dawn robes can be acquired during the Cause creation quests. A courier will give you a note when you are mid 40s. You can get one before thisat Red Scar Cavern to the west of Champion’s Rest in the Rift, as there is a Mythic Dawn member on guard outside the cavern.

The Daedric Boots and Gauntlets start spawning on higher level bandit bosses but you can craft them if you have some Daedra Hearts and Ebony Ingots with the Daedric Smithing perk. I crafted mine as there's a Daedric Heart near Kodlac's room in Jorvaskyr in Whiterun. Carry it down the hall to the entrance away from where most of the NPC are and then go into stealth and finally take the heart when no one is watching. It respawns after some time so get your first one early.


Spells

Alteration for Utility spells, Destruction for fire and shock spells, Conjuration for Dremora Lords and Restoration for heals.


Standing Stones

Use the Lord Stone for the 50 armor rating and 25% magic resistance.


Shrines

Use a Shrine of Talos for the 20% reduction to shout cooldowns.


Shouts

Dismay (Fear - Run - Terror)

Location: Dead Crone Rock, Lost Tongue Overlook, Shalidor’s Maze

Causes enemies up to level 24 to flee for 30 seconds. Quick to activate over say using Hysteria.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Female High Elf

Pick female as the sex for your character as there are more male humanoids than females to fight in Skyrim so the 10% damage bonus against the opposite sex from Agent of Dibella gets more use. All Dwemer Automatons count as Male.


Attribute Distribution

Place attribute points at 1 / 2 / 0. At level 58 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:

Alteration

Spell Level Description
Candlelight Novice Creates a hovering light that lasts for 60 seconds
Detect Life Adept Nearby living creatures, but not undead, machines or daedra, can be seen through walls
Telekinesis Adept Can pull an object to you from distance. Add it to your inventory or throw it
Waterbreathing Adept Can breathe under water for 60 seconds. Stand in water and cast to level Alteration.

From the Bow of Shadows quest that you get from the steward in Dragonsreach you can get the Detect Life spell book at the stables once you have read the ledger in Acradia's Cauldron. Cast this in the market during the day to level Alteration.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description
Conjure Familiar Apprentice Summons a familiar for 60 seconds wherever the caster is pointing.
Soul Trap Apprentice If a target dies within 60 seconds, fills a soul gem.
Conjure Dremora Lord Expert Summons a Dremora Lord for 60 second.

Soul Trap is used to level Conjuration and also fill soul gems.


Destruction

Spell Level Description
Flames Novice A gout of fire inflicting a base damage of 8 points of fire damage per second.
Sparks Novice Lightning that does 8 points of shock damage to Health and Magicka per second.
Fire Bolt Apprentice A blast of fire that does 25 points of damage. Targets on fire take extra damage.
Lightning Bolt Apprentice A bolt of lightning that does 25 points of shock damage to Health and half that to Magicka.
Chain Lightning Adept Lightning bolt that does 40 points of shock damage to Health and half to Magicka, then leaps to a new target.
Fireball Adept A fiery explosion for 40 points of damage in a 15 foot radius. Targets on fire take extra damage.
Incinerate Expert A blast of fire that does 60 points of damage. Targets on fire take extra damage.
Thunderbolt Expert A Thunderbolt that does 60 points of shock damage to Health and half that to Magicka.
Lightning Storm Master Target takes 75 points of shock damage per second to Health, and half that to Magicka.

Destuction will level naturally as it's your damage source although Faralda at the College of Winterhold can be used to train this up yo level 90.


Illusion

Spell Level Description
Courage Novice Target won't flee for 60 seconds, and gets some extra health and stamina.

Courage can be used to level illusion.


Restoration

Spell Level Description
Healing Novice Heals the caster 10 points per second
Fast Healing Apprentice Heals caster by 50 points
Close Wounds Adept Heals caster by 100 points
Grand Healing Expert Heals everyone close to the caster 200 points. Does not affect atronachs, machines or undead

You can start using better healing spells as the cost reduction perks are acquired but I pretty much just used Healing and Fast Healing before getting enchanted gear.


Enchantments

The effects listed below are based upon 100 Enchanting skill, all the enchanting perks in the build and with a set of enchanted crafting gear. Read my guide on making crafting gear if you are not familiar with it.

Magicka is increased by 115 points.

With the Sallowed Regent Black Book the magnitude of all enchantments can be increased.

Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.


Alchemy

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Fortify Health

Effects Fortify Magicka 170 points for 60 seconds
Restore Magicka 266 points restored

All ingredients are found in, around or on the way to Whiterun from Helgen.


Potion of Fortify Destruction

Ingredients Glowing Mushroom, Snowberries & Steel-Blue Entoloma
Effects Fortify Destruction 170% more damage for 60 seconds
Resist Frost 128% for 60 seconds
Resist Shock 128% for 60 seconds

All the glowing mushrooms you need are at the farm. Snowberries are from around Windhelm. Steel-Blue Entoloma are from Khajiit caravans


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Stoneflower Petals & Snowberries
Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.


Potion of Fortify Smithing

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Gold Kanet & Glowing Mushrooms
Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
