Breton - Greatsword - Clothing - Barbarian - Battlemage
An avenger, sometimes also called a dark knight, is an agent of one or more gods who seeks to bring divine wrath unto the enemies of their divine patron. It is also the name given to paladins who followed the Oath of Vengeance, swearing to hunt down and punish those who had committed grievous sins.
Steel Greatsword, which is then replaced by Chrysamere. This weapon has some unique enchantments and it doesn’t use any charges and can be found on a ghostly paladin by the word wall at Forelhost. Tempering it requires an Ebony Ingot and a Ruby. There’s 2 guaranteed Rubies at Orphan Rock if you have the quest from Danica Pure-Spring at the Temple of Kynareth in Whiterun to get Nettlebane called The Blessing of Nature.
Any mage gear that boosts Alteration and Restoration at the start of the game.
For a righteous Avenger it’s Mage Hood from Colette at the College of Winterhold, College Robes from Raidiant Raiment in Solitude, Mage Boots and Gloves from the College of Winterhold.
For a heretical Avenger it’s Vagrant Robes and Vagrant Hood, which you get from following the quests for Viriya at Riften Docks. Thalmor Gloves and Boots which can be acquired from a small shrine of Talos near the guardian stones.
Alteration for mage armour spells and paralysis spells. Heals from Restoration and also fire and forget spells such as Circle of Protection and Stendarr’s Aura.
Get the Lord stone as soon as possible as this is the only passive armour you will have for the build.
Talos for the shout cooldown improvement.
Location: Ironbind Barrow, Lost Valley Redoubt, Ustengrav (The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller).
Useful to get Mass Paralysis to hit multiple targets without being staggered or damaged.
Location: Just follow the main story quests.
Used as a quick stagger.
Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)
Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.
Only 3 of the races have a starting boost to both Alteration and Restoration and the choices are Argonian, Breton and High Elf. Breton seem to fit the vibe of the build and the starting boost of 25% magic resistance allows the magic resistance cap of 85% to be reached while not needing to use an enchantment, thus freeing an enchantment slot for something else.
You need to side with the Dawnguard in this build to get the Stendarr's Aura spell, which is only 3 quests deep into the faction.
Distribute attributes at a ratio of 1 / 3 / 1. At level 59 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:
Magicka | Health | Stamina |
---|---|---|
220 | 450 (680) | 210 (325) |
The skill boosts for Bretons are marked in bold.
